I recently had mirena removed because of its side effects. My doctor suggested I try the mini-pill (ceravette - spelling incorrect?). Though it is also a progesterone only product as well, she said the dosage was MUCH lower, meaning less side effects. Well weeks and a face full of acne later, i did my own research and found out mirena doses 20 micrograms a day, and my new minipill dosage is 75 micrograms a day! It could be that my research is wrong or that there are factors that effect how the dosages of mirena and the mini-pill work - but to me the error seems pretty straight forward. If this is the true, it is a pretty sad case of misinformation on my gynaecologists' part. I think this will break me of the habit of blindly trusting my physician. With a bit of my own research, I will at least be able to ask the tough questions...
