Mirena--acne, bloating and mild depression...

I hesitate to post this as it is somewhat of a repeat of many other postings, but I think it's important to share our respective experiences. Look at the numbers of us who have had serious side effects from the Mirena (not to mention the numbers of women who do not think to look online for info/support, who do not find this site, or who those who have had similar experiences but who do not post their story).

Anyhow, my Mirena side effects ranged from mild nausea, to mild moodiness/mild depression, to severe acne. It was the acne side effect that led me to have it removed (had it in for 3 months—just had it removed yesterday). The acne started within one week of insertion and progressed to the point where I would have many very small cyst like pustules under my skin that rarely ever came to a head. This acne was not only unpleasant to look at, but some of the larger cyst-like pimples were painful—I could actually feel them on my face (without actually touching with my fingers if this makes sense I could just feel them on my face). Anyhow, this may be more detail about the actual acne than necessary—but as you may imagine the acne was intense and upsetting. So, I went to have it removed yesterday afternoon. I feel better mentally, but will most likely have to wait a while longer for the other side effects to dissipate. I have my fingers crossed that the acne will stop rearing its ugly head… I took some “before” acne photos and I’m anxious to compare with the “after” pics….

One last aside—the practitioners at my clinic were very surprised to hear that Mirena was not working for me as they explain that women they see “love” the Mirena….
