I also got the merina iud in 2002 which in it self was very painful! I experienced hair loss, depression for which I've been seeing a phsychiatrist and abdomen pain so bad that I made many trips to the doctor and ER's for tests. One doctor did std tests after I told him I was sure it was my iud causing all of these problems! I found a doctor who did an xray and it showed the iud had moved abourt 12 inches upward into my uterus. I then went to a specialist who tried numerous times to remove it but failed and that caused a lot of time off work and pain! I was scheduled for surgery the next day and was put under for a laperoscopy to remove it from my uterus/intestine. I missed numerous days of work, pay and spent a lot of money on co payments and didn't have insurance for some of my ER visits! What can we do to keep someone else from deciding on getting the Merina?!!!
