thank you to this board for all the comments and sharing of experiences. It's so nice to not feel alone and like i'm crazy! I had the copper t iud about 8 years ago for several years and hated the longer heavier periods so removed it and went back on the pill. following the birth of my second child i decided to try the mirena iud about three years ago after some research and my cnm's suggestion. I had horrible side effects, cramping, heavy bleeding, throwing up, moodiness, and so i removed it after awhile. This May 06 my cnm and i decided to give it one more try as i'd like to not worry about birth control for five years since my family is complete and the pill is annoying. The insertion proceedure has never bothered me, i barely feel it, so i went ahead and got the mirena again. However i experienced bloating, tremendous bleeding, and lots of pain from day one onwards. I've had natural childbirth with both children and am very pain tolerant but this was beyond my coping with. I felt pregnant actually with tender breasts, and acne even after a week. I also gained 8lbs this time in two weeks! and 20lbs the time before!! I removed the mirena last week and it was such a relief. Since then i've been bleeding heavily and expect to again for around a month, but the bloating is already going away. Maybe this form of birth control works for some people, it just didn't for me. If you have migraines, the mirena seemed to make that worse for me and several of my friends as well. I say, trust your own body and listen to what it's telling you, even if your doctor disagrees. it's your body, you know it better then anyone else.
