My GP in the UK has also called me a liar. I had the mirena 10 months ago - 9 months in and now removed!! Within the first month gained 10lbs, I visited my GP after Christmas and she said that perhaps it was Christmas overindulgence! What a COW!! Over the next 8 months I gained another 10lbs which on a 5ft 4in frame was a great deal - all sitting on my trunk area! I went to the GP 3 times in the 9 months and she was adamant that it was not the Mirena and could be a Thyroid problem - which after a blood test revealed normal blood and no Thyroid problem. She suggested a food diary and even critisised a handful of pumpkin seeds per day between breakfast and lunch could be the contributor to 20lb weight gain!!! I didn't want to get bigger and when I was steadily gaining 2lbs every few weeks, I said ENOUGH - and told her to take it out - which to be honest she was reluctant to do. Since removal I haven't gained any more weight but not lost it so far. Went to see my GP after the Mirena removal and the GP said again the Mirena wouldn't contribute to weight gain - well I know differently and I know that I will be losing this weight without drastic steps, prove the GP wrong and then tell every woman I know about the horrid Mirena!
