prescriptions

Dear Vivian,

This varies by state. In Oregon, I remember AZT and morphine on the formulary, as well as non-controlled substances. Here in Maine I can prescribe a range of non-controlled medications. In most cases my prescriptive ability is moot because patients are coming for drug alternatives or a better, more researched alternative exists. I would say that going to an N.D. for a drug is like going to an M.D. for a supplement. It is possible to get good advice, but it isn't that profession's focus.

I hope this is helpful.
