Gait Problem

Dear Giacomo,

If there is no other restriction on your arm movement, then your habit of walking is simply a habit. A physical or occupational therapist would be able to help you with this in a session or two, but you might be able to correct this situation by consciously swinging your arms for a period of each walk.

Starting slowly to "get yourself in sync" alternating the arm forward and the leg forward (left leg and right arm, then right leg and left arm). Increase your pace until you are "walking normally." Daily I see patients who have very strange "normal" postures that cause them pain.

If you are unsuccessful with the habit, do call around to local doctors in your new city and ask if they deal with this problem. It should be relatively easy to solve.

I hope this is helpful.
