Illinois doesn't currently license NDs. And, I'm not aware of a strong momentum toward licensure there.
As far as making a living: I've had instructors who claim to make $200 thousand or more per year. But, most recent NDs I speak to seem to make in the 30's or 40's max. I think making a living in naturopathy means being creative. Perhaps finding other ways to make money than seeing clients (ie repping for supplement companies, writing books, etc.)
In the end you need to follow your own heart, but keep in mind that it is very possible to practice naturopathic medicine as an MD (after residency, of course), plus you'll recieve a better education in diagnosing and treating and not have to worry 'bout scope of practice limitations.
Just my two cents. Good luck.
