Although I don't know exactly what the future of naturopathic medicine will be myself... I think the outlook is generally positive. I don't know if NDs will ever have the same clout as MDs, but I really hope that someday people will consider MDs, DOs, and NDs on a similar level.
The reason I think things will be moving in a positive direction is because I see a lot of very intelligent, idealistic people I know going to ND school. Also, I see ND school promoted much more heavily now-- I saw it on the pre-medical websites of UC Berkeley amongst others. So student interest in going to ND school is increasing. I hope with this increased demand, either there will be more ND schools, or admissions requirements will become more competitive. Who knows, maybe some days prospective ND students will also have to take the MCAT. (Just a guess.) But I think this change in people's hearts and minds will still be slow. Although I don't have a crystal ball, my feeling is that it will still be another 20 years or so before naturopathic medicine is accepted the way DOs are accepted now (as they were formerly considered quacks by MDs). But I think this will require NDs to be admitted to allopathic residencies and such. My thoughts at least.
