Extraodinary Sense of Smell

My wife's ability to detect smells/odors in extraordinary. Unfortunately, when she encounters various chemicals it causes her lips and tongue to go numb or her chest hurts, etc. Any ideas on how whe can de-sensitize her ability to smell?
