future of naturopathic medicine

Ideally, all doctors would exhibit the traits that an Naturopathic school tries to instill in future NDs. In some form, it is very likely that NDs will be absorbed into the framework of modern medicine. Not without the kicking and screaming of the MDs, who lost anti-trust litigation back in 1989 when the supreme court ruled in favor of the chiropractors. Look at the history and gradual assimilation of the osteopaths. At this point many of the osteopathic schools don't emphasize the bodywork that made them quacks. It is likely that as more and more students demand "an MD like" education the programs will more closely resemble standard medicine. And then another "alternative" will be created by individuals who want to try things that is non-standard.

The only difference between an N.D. and a holistic M.D. is in the title and the amount of grief the holistic M.D. gets from his or her conservative board about the quackery/herbs/alternatives.

We have "magical thinking" in every medical field, including the well known "honeymoon effect" for any new drug when it seems to have no side effects.
