I think there is a lot of misinformation about what is taught in naturopathic school. In fact, I am totally guilty of that myself. At the time when I was looking at applying to ND school, I asked a currently student if they study Reiki, energy healing, chakras etc. I was concerned, because I wanted a science-based medicine education and didn't want to be associated with all that new age 'weirdness'. I had always seen naturopathic doctors advertisements on alternative healing magazines that have all the other voodoo-ish stuff, so I thought perhaps they learn that in ND school as well. The ND student was quick to inform me that they go to medical school, and all that stuff is NOT medicine (though they wouldn't discourage the patient from practicing it on their own if they choose to do so). So don't associate ND education with crystal healing all that stuff, as it isn't the case. Perhaps there may be a greater percentage of NDs who are interested in that kind of thing (compared to MDs) as NDs are more inclined to seek 'alternatives' to mainstream medicine. But don't assume that is what is taught as part of ND curriculum. They are taught counseling, nutrition, herbal medicine etc-- which is definitely useful for the health professional to know.
