I am having the same mental tug-of-war that you have been having. I WILL apply to Naturopathic schools with the hopes of healing, as I believe a physician should. I have interviewed many N.D.'s and M.D.'s and have found the following.
N.D.'s typically do not make much money. I've been told at least 100K/yr, but I find it is more like 20-50K/yr. Though most N.D.'s I've spoken with say that if they work as a sort of drug-pusher for a neutraceutical or pharmaceutical company they could increase their income. Most of these physicians are not doing this because they don't believe healing involves filling their own pockets (and the pockets of those companies).
I have also been told that a M.D. providing a holistic or natural form of healing cannot be covered by many forms of insurance for these practices.
I've found that many, many people consider alternative forms of medicine like naturopathic, homeopathic, chiropractic, etc. to be "quacks". This term, in my opinion, is used by people who have a very narrow minded view of healing methods.
I believe Naturopathy should be used in conjuction with other forms of medicine and should be complementary.
Realize though, that I am not a physician and all of my information has been told to me or learned in books and articles.
Either way you choose, good luck.
