After reading all the posts, I began to realize that my weight gain and hair loss was related to the Mirena. The weight gain was easy to fix - more calories had to be used ea. day then what I was eating. Hence, I am now in better shape than before the Mirena! In addition to the hair loss, I also had dry, frizzy hair - something that I had never had before. I thought it was due to age (I'm over 40). I decided to have my Mirena removed, because of the hair issues, and a copper IUD inserted in the same day. Very easy - except my 1st period is awful. It's timeliness was impeccable (no 5 mo. wait). I forgot how bad periods are (esp. since I haven't had one in 2 1/2 yrs). Today is one day that I am wondering what is the better "bad" - bad hair or bad periods. By the way, my hair (after a 2" cut) is looking great - no dryness, frizz and less hair is coming out (more like what is normal).
