I can't believe that I have put up with this for over 3 years! When I first got the mirena it was so painful, during insertion I almost passed out. For months afterward I would still get extremely dizzy. I would also experience severe pain like I was going into labor. It would start out horrible and slowly calm into slight and then dwindle off. All the while I would be nauseuos and dizzy. It would last for 1 to 3 minutes. I should have gotten it removed right away but I was hoping that it would get better! I was right - it went from a couple of times a day to 3 years later once or twice a week but not as painful. Not the improvement I was hoping for. Also I always feel it on the right side - I can feel the pain on my right ovary always.
Also I have noticed acne on my face and back. I just thought that my body was changing with age I never put 2 & 2 together.
I was really in the dark until 4 weeks ago when I woke up with severe dizziness and nausea that did not go away. I went to the ER and they said it was vertigo. While the doc was asking me questions it came out that I had mirena and have had the above mentioned problems as well as more hair loss than usual. She told me that she could remove it and gave me anti vert meds. At the time I was not yet putting all of this together and did not pursue it. But now in retrospect I know that the doc thought my problems were due to mirena, but I think that doctors keep these things to themselves for fear of lawsuits!! I am getting it removed tomorrow I am scared that they won't be able to find it. I can't. Also I hope it doesn't hurt as much as it hurt to get it!!!!
