I had my Mirena removed yesterday after having it for almost 1year. I loved it in the begining. I used to tell my friends "My IUD is my new best friend" - it had all off the "idea" of being the perfect birth control. No periods, no worries - and I have alway's had hormonal imbalance issues so this was so much better than the pill. Well little did I know that it was wreaking havoc on my body! I started with lower back bain - really bad - many night of no sleep and seeing the chiroprator very often. Then came upper gastro problems - they thought it was my gall bladder - all symptoms seemed to point to it - all testing came back 100% normal - except for the 10lb weight loss and constant pain I was having. Next was hair loss. Weight gain - without any reason. Acne - on my back (yuck) the cystic kind. Then came joint pain - my wrists mostly then left hip. Once again all testing came back normal. I was tested for Lupas, Lymes, Rheumatiod Arthritis and everything else under the sun - ALL NORMAL - then I went to the Orthopedic - who x-rayed my ever painful wrists - NOTHING WRONG! That was the final straw - I said to myself - what else could it be - I called my gyno and went in the next day to take it out. I am waiting to see all of these "side effects" go away - they better.
