Mirena Issues

Hi,
I too was given Mirena for painful periods. I was told a year ago that I had endometriosis and that Mirena would help by stopping my periods. I went through alot of what you did. I had horrible mood swings, ended up depressed and gain a lot of weight which depressed me even more. I went off of the Mirena (against my doctor's advice) three months after I had it inserted. I felt better for a while, but then the pelvic pain came back, slowly incresing. It has been constant with a period every two weeks for 3 months. I finally had my GP do my last pap smear and he sent me to a different OB/Gyn. This is the 8th doctor I have seen in 6 years for my problem. He said I have adenomyosis, which my sister had already found out a year ago by my symptoms, and that the only treatment to stop the pain is hysterectomy. I am scheduled the 13th. I am fine with this as I am 40 and divorced, and although I wanted to have more children, I don't think I will ever get the chance. He said that the Mirena would make someone in my situation more uncomfortable than it would help. (No wonder I didn't get the great relief my last OB/Gyn promised me.) You know your body more than any doctor, don't give up, keep switching doctors until you find one that really tries to make you comfortable and does not alway buy into the promises drug companies try to sell. I never thought that my GP of 10 years would be the one to help me end my pain and solve my problem.
