curling fingernails

Does anyone have any info about why my fingernails are curling. It always starts with my middle fingermails first. I suspect it has something to do with low acids in my stomach. My nails can be doing fine and then all of a sudden they begin to curl. HCI seems to help some but is inconsistent in helping keep them straight.
