after reading all the info here, and hearing from my doctor that weight gain WOULD NOT be happening. i decided to take mine out. i had mine put in in november and i am now 19 pounds heavier. i was starting to believe i had a sort of disease, a cancer or something. in feb and march i was running 7 miles a day in the desert and even started yoga and kickboxing 4 days a week and i could not lose weight. at all....same weight no matter what. i realize it is the hormones in the mirena. this next part might make some of you queezy, but i removed it myself last night. it took about 4 seconds and frankly, i have had harder problems removing tampons before....i located the string and relaxed and gently pulled. i felt it come out. absolutely no pain whatsoever. i am tired of going to the doctor and read all about the removal and realized that is all they would do anyway. so, i sanitized my hand, grasped the string with my thumb and first finger and pulled. it was so easy and absolutely painless...took less than 5 seconds, i swear. i will keep you posted on the weight loss. i knew i had been feeling different lately and i thought it was my age. i know now it was the mirena. good luck to all of you. i plan on getting my body back.
