Re: weight gain, easy removal of mirena

Wow...I thought I was the only one that had problems with Mirena! I have been struggling with this for the last 4 years, but had noone to talk to because I didn't know anyone else that ever had it. I got Mirena in June of '03 at age 26, and it had to be taken in January of '04. I had noticed dull abdominal cramps for a week or two, so when I went to the doctor, I was told that I had a "mild uterine infection" and that he had to take the IUD out. Now, I don't see anything "mild" about a uterine infection, but anyway...I was given antibioitics and told that I would be fine afterwards. I asked my doctor before I left the clinic if this infection (I had never had one before) would affect my ability to have children in the future. He looked me in the face and said, "Oh no, you'll be fine." I asked him "Are you sure?" He said, "Oh yeah." To this day, I have not had one pregnancy, whereas before Mirena I was able to conceive perfectly fine (we have three kids, and would like to have another). My husband and I have not used ANY form of birth control since having Mirena removed, my periods are irregular every month STILL and only last about 2 days at the most, I don't even know if I ovulate anymore! My pap tests have always come back normal, but I've always wondered in the back of my head if that infection 4 years ago sterilized me. If there was one thing in life that I regret and could take back, it would be getting Mirena put in...
