Before deciding to pay for expensive Naturopathic school, please consider the following and get lots of information from sources outside of the schools.
I hope others read this and are saved from financial ruin. I borrowed 100K and it has grown into 200K due to interest. I cannot pay it back., and there is no longer a legal default option.
I'm an old school N.D. without salesmanship ability or means to start my own business. I divorced many years ago, just after graduation, and my family and ex-husband were and still are unwilling to help me start a business. They all think I should "get a job" and are unwilling to recognize the scarcity of naturopathic jobs, which I've applied for over the years.
I have no other professional training to earn a decent income outside of medicine. I do teaching, which pays poorly, though I enjoy it. Most N.D. jobs require at least two years' experience practicing, or acupuncture skills, or tend towards mainstream medicine, like working at a center doing Botox.
I am not enough of an energetic go-getter to work a job for money, as well as start a business at the same time, plus try to raise my kids. Consider how much energy you have and how you are able to spend it.
WARNING: If you do not have a spouse or family who will help you with starting your own business, and do not have a good money making side job during and after school, and do not have significant savings, DON'T TAKE ON THE DEBT!
I have lost my health, my ability to have a normal, American middle class life, and even custody of my children. Natural medicine is dear to me and I have all the skills to be a great doc, but I blindly followed what I felt was my calling without getting enough information and doing the planning. In fact, I would have been very happy to be a local herb lady with some kind of herbal certificate.
COUNT THE COSTS BEFORE YOU BEGIN CONSTRUCTING THE BUILDING.
