Hi CMQ.

I've perused this thread, and find that Rusty has given a lot of very cogent advice to take into consideration if you are contemplating naturopath school.

I might add, though, that on several occasions you have mentioned MDs not looking for the cause of illness, or not practicing holistically, or DOs not being well versed in manipulation. Quite honestly, you'll find the same among many naturopaths. After graduation my naturopath colleagues often become glorified supplement pushers, or come to the very real conclusion that we often cannot "treat the cause" of a patient's disease. (Even while still in school, I adopted the motto "Don't treat the cause. Treat the patient!)

On the other hand, there are many other health professionals (MDs, DOs, NPs, etc) who do treat patients from a holistic perspective, using modalities such as lifestyle counseling, nutritional modifications, herbs, acupuncture, and even homeopathy. This is still a minority-- but growing. Yes, we got a smattering of (mostly time wasting) courses in "naturopathic philosophy" in naturopath school. But there is nothing there that cannot be practiced by concientious clinicians with MD, DO or NP degrees.
