Hi Leann,
I am currently a student with Clayton College and as GG stated the distance learning "degrees" are not a license and do not certify you as anything. It is also true that the majority of the students at Clayton are in it for the knowledge because they love natural health and the philosophy of Naturopathy and do go on to only consult, write books or make the "degree" an addition to their massage therapy, reiki, personal training, etc practices. I would also say that if most students could they would love to attend a school like Bastyr but it's not physically or financially possible. But the love is still there.
If you do attend the Herbal Healer academy and finish you studies you can become "certified" through
http://www.ancb.net/eligibility.html
In all reality, I don't think it counts for anything besides a personal goal but I do know it's something that has been mentioned on the student message boards at Clayton and is encouraged by the staff.
For what it's worth,
Nicole
ps - as a distance learning student with Clayton I do want to say that the studies are great for personal use. I have been treated by a licensed ND, excercise more outdoors and eat organic whenever possible. The knowledge, although not accredited, will change your life!
