As a graduate I was not able to make a living out of practicing Naturopathic medicine and to date have not encountered any of my collegues who have been successful. I sat in my office and averaged one patient a week. It's a very challenging and expensive program ($98,000 and climbing) with very little support after graduation. I have now returned to what I did before Bastyr just to get by. I recently talked with a colleague in her 40s who has had to move back in with her parents because she is so in debt. We were told we'd be pioneers but one can only be broke for so long, and I could never really get the results in my practice that the instructors claimed. Of course it could have been the instruction was largely by recent grads who were merely passing on stuff they heard. There are of course a few great wonderful instructors. I feel healthy, my family has benefited; it was expensive health insurance. Every month when I send that check to Sallie Mae I think is this the month I default so if there's enough of us Bastyr losses its acreditation and that'll be that revenge is mine or maybe next month somewhere somehow they'll be some redemption in all that hard work. Sound bitter? I am.
