Plant dosage

Hi,

In a lot of old medicinal herb books, a lot of plant have a dosage described as "Specific dosage". As an example, in the Felter and Lloyd (1898) book, under Gaultheria procumbens, the dosage is "specific gaultheria: 1 to 20 drops". http://www.henriettesherbal.com/eclectic/kings/gaultheria-pr oc.html

Is somebody knows what the terme "specific" refers to what kind of dosage? (Tincture? Infusion? Decoction? Other?) and how can I calculate the dry leaf weight equivalent?

Thanks a lot!
