Read Mirena PRESCRIBING Information
After 2 months of weight gain, hair loss and grumpiness, I started to suspect the mirena. I found this and other forums online. Right away I had it removed. My dr. was great, agreed it certainly can cause these problems, and removed it quickly and painlessly. In 4 days I've lost 3 pounds (water weight, I'm sure). All dr.s aren't mean about it; any dr. that makes you feel bad isn't a good dr. to be seeing. Find one who is empathetic. Also, remember that this does work well for some women, maybe even most. I didn't for me, for many of us. To get a full list of possible side effects, find the prescribing information (NOT the patient information, which says to talk to your doctor about other possible side effects instead of listing them all) on mirena website and read it carefully. These side effects are listed, albeit as rare. If you need to print it out and show it to your doc, then do that.
