Steatocystoma multiplex

A rare skin disease that seems to include a variety of different presentations. Currently surgery is the standard treatment, but previously accutane was used with some success. It leads me to think that beta carotene in large doses might be helpful. I also saw reports of macrophage involvement, which leads down the autoimmune pathways. It supposedly is genetically dominant, but we have multiple case reports of no genetic history and late onset, which brings environmental factors into play. A cotrigger that causes crossreaction to the sebaceous glands, especially in individuals with a genetic predisposition? I would look for either a bacterial or allergic cofactor.
