I hope this helps. I\'m 53 and have had extreme excema all my life, too. The tendancy is hereditary. It often accompanies asthma. My father was the medical text books\' photo of \"extreme Excema\" so I only got it from the best. He actually had to wear a cotton bag with eye-holes cut out to pass the bar-exams! I have found that excema is very intertwined to our mental/emothional stress levels. I suppose, I could add physical stress to that too. Mine was worst in college while I was studying engineering. I was the 1st woman in a \"man\'s field\" in the 60\'s at my school. There were different rules of dress, etc. for me. It got bad enough to put me in the hospital for a week! I can keep myself rash-free easier by controlling the stress in my life (or my reaction to it). Yoga, meditation, and other stress-relieving activities have helped over the years. I am now undergoing a huge stress and it is back with a vengence after years of \"control\".

I want to be sure to address the fact that excema is NOT A FUNGUS! Poor Robin. No one is helping you free yourself of stress by telling you that you have a \"fungus\" (bad conotation there)

The other thing is that we all have allergies. Excema starts as an itch (which is a minimal pain sensation to our brains). We scratch. It hurts. We are relieved of the itch. It seems that our brains do not register \"itch\". This seems to be the reason that the pain of scratching \"helps\" the itch. When we scratch our bodies, then we injur our skin. This causes the anitbodies to flood to the site. Finding nothing to fight, they attack the site of our injury. This is what causes the rash (and sometimes \"oozing\") Ahh--there is so much more I could add, but this seems to be long enough.
