If you experience hair loss, the first thing to do is have your thyroid checked. If your thyroid is slightly slow (which means HIGH TSH numbers), you will probably experienc hair loss. I am trying to find out if this is one of the \"unusual\" side effects of Wellbutrin, Lexapro, and Clonapin. My family has a history of thyroid problems so it may be unrelated BUT my thyroid numbers have been unstable since starting these antidepressants. Also, the range for normal is very large (0.4-4 or 0.5-5 depending on the lab). This is being debated in the medical community now. For me, and from what I have read, you really want your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) numbers to be between 1 and 2. If you are above 2 and your doctor will not prescribe thyroid for you because you are in the \"normal\" range, CHANGE DOCTORS. Also, Synthroid (or the generic) is the most prescribed synthetic thryoid medication but there are issues with it even though it has been in use for a long time. If you have insurance, ask for Unithroid.
Anyway--any time you notice hair loss, the first step should be to have your thyroid checked. Slow thyroid can also make you feel fatigued and retain water. Since fatigue is one of the symptoms of depression also, it is not always obvious.
