nurse for 18 years and teacher for nursing 13 years, protein in urine....good question. trace of protein to neg normal. However consist and high level ++ for example can mean many things first a urine test is only a procedure to warrent further testing not for Dx. The condition in which protein is present in the urine is called proteinuria or albuminuria. This is an important indicator of renal disease. But can also be caused by other conditions such as urinary tract infection. If you a really concerned about the chances of renal damages, ask your doctor. not the internet....protein diets can break down muslces and are very hard on the kidneys and renal system.
