My nephrologist told me that everyone has protein in the urine, but some bodies produce more than others. In my case the protein in my urine is very high. My kidneys can\'t filter it all so it spills out and damages my kidneys. I just had a kidney biopsy done 2 wks. ago to find out what kidney disease I have and how damaged they are. If you have high protein that means you are taking in too much protein. In 13 years I have been to 4 different Nephrologists and the first 3 told me there is nothing they can do and food does not make a difference. That\'s not true, my 4th dr. said of course when your body produces too much protein and you eat foods high in protein that will damage your kidneys. Now that\'s just my own case, but she did tell me when I get my results I will be put on a low protein diet. I strongly suggest your friend get a second opinion from another specialist. 17 is the same age I was when I first started having problems, 16 years later I\'m still waiting to find out. GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS.
