Pattie-
Hi there, I am a student at a four-year naturopathic university. I looked at both schools you mentioned and found them very disappointing. The training you would receive might be valuable for yourself, but when it comes to treating other people you need to have more hands-on training. The clinical training required by University of Natural Medicine sounds like the 132 hours of preceptorship(doctor shadowing) that is required by the school I attend. Well, I have finished most of those hours and there is absolutely no way that I would feel competent treating people after observing and having the limited hands-on experience provided by that training. My clinical training requires over 1000 hours of supervised instruction with objective feedback. Pattie, I encourage you to check into the accreditation of these schools and compare it to the other universities. The states with licensure for NDs are including clauses to accept naturopaths only from accredited four-year colleges and universities. This is done to set a standard of education in the field. Consider this in your educational persuit. Faye Bastyr Student
