I have continually heard advocates of distance learning programs CNME programs based on \"invasive surgery\" and \"prescribing drugs\". The surgical training is in minor surgery (removal of a mole, suturing a laceration, etc...) which is a controlled act, but is not invasive. The training is not in merely prescribing drugs, but understanding pharmakinetics and pharmodynamics of pharmacology, drug-nutrient-herb interactions, protocols to effectively alter patients existing medications and yes, sometimes prescribing a medication (the majority of prescriptions involving the use of natural, bioidentical hormones). I think that mutual respect and understanding is paramount for all health providers. I just get sick and tired hearing about drugs and surgery- it is such a small part of CNME training (but important, relevant and part of the history of naturopathic medicine- based on all of the early naturopathic school curriculum and the federal DOT definition of naturopathic medicine). Regards, J.D.
