As with all physicians, NDs have limitations. But we also have many options a standard MD would not be comfortable prescribing. To answer your specific question, there are a number of herbal combinations that are effective for pain relief.

I feel my scope of practice is adequate for my needs. If my patient really needs narcotics, I would prefer to refer them elsewhere.
