There are many people across the United States and Canada that are trained through mail correspondence courses who also call themselves Naturopathic Doctors. These are 6– 8 month part time courses with no basic science training, and no clinical training. These people may be qualified to do natural health and herbal/ supplementation consultation, but they are by no means qualified to be your physician. The best way to insure that your naturopathic physician is qualified is to ask to see their state license (not certification). If they are practicing in an unlicensed state they should have gone to an accredited university. There are currently 5: Bastyr University, National College of Naturopathic Medicine, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, University of Bridgeport School of Naturopathic Medicine, and Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.
