I myself suffer from PTSD and have been diagnosed Bi-Polar.
I used to think that you had to be in a war to suffer from PTSD. Wrong. I believe that my PTSD surfaced in my adult life because I was severly abused as a child. Being renacted over and over again by something horrific that my mind just could not handle at the time. So my mind had a way of \"burying the trauma\" as a child. Plus, I was shot with a 9mm by my ex-boyfriend in the stomach about 6 years ago. I believe that was the final blow to my mind. It jolted loose all the trauma I had stuffed as a child. It re-opened the can of worms.
So my life experience has been full of trauma. I seem to be in a \"war\" within myself!
I am not on complete solid ground yet! But I am aware that I have these disorders.
And to be aware is a big step on the right path for peace of mind.
I do hope that your (ex-husband) can seek the help he needs and does not have to suffer with PTSD the rest of his life. I do believe with alot of couseling for him (and even for yourself) that there is hope. Pass on information to him if you think he will take it.
Maybe even give him a nice card with a book about PTSD as a nice gift of love. : )
Take care of you and your family,
Your Not Alone, Deb
