Reading the posts of some of the less-tha-satisfied ND students explains the reasons there are so many dissatisfied clients of NDs. It defintely is the flake factor.

Some here have mentioned the poor science-based training and more of the new age factor. For patients, that becomes apparent only after they’ve invested time and money with NDs. No one expects to walk into an office where the professional is going to flat out state they are more into new age drivel than science. The basis of naturopathy is that the body has the innate ability to heal itself. That can be twisted into many harmful ways.

An ND in my state was very much into large grouo awareness training (LGATs, like est, Landmark, Lifespring). He did not feel the need to notify his patients of such. He was using his practice to recruit. Only after inducing crisis would he start to invite clients to introductory meetings. LGATs don’t believe in science either. Headaches, cancer, are all results of “your story about your life.”” Much to my surprise, I’ve heard this from patients of NDs, who after spending an incredible amount of supplements, were basically told it’s all in their heads.
