Re: Re: Re: The death factor vs. the flake factor
Guilty of writing an incomplete thought. NDs do not have the training to administer psychological or spiritual counselling. Many clients of NDs that I know described suggestions of exploring past life experiences because standard diagnostic tests had failed to produce definitive diagnoses. Another one was counselled in repressed memories and PTSD therapy, even though she could not recall any abuse that the ND was trying to dig up. Another account described on this forum was also the work of a NJ ND. Most NDs always taken an eastern philosophical approach when counselling, which is inappropriate and can be psychologically disturbing in a western culture.
Again, the problem is the training and scope of practice. NDs are not primary care physicians, as Bastyr suggests, nor are they psychologists, clergy or legitimate spiritual counselors.
It is one thing to be, for example, buddhist and use buddhist practice to guide yourself to do the right thing. It is another thing to try and get your client to be buddhist, which is what, in my discussions with many clients, is going on.
