One biopsy for a nodule 8 x 10 mm proved to be a bacterial infection; now have a a 1.1 . 9 cm nodule, which has doubled in approx. 15 months. Plan to have another biopsy in 2 weeks for possible malignancy. I am high risk, 69 yrs., heavy smoker for 40 years. Dr. feels its growth is not the best thing but could be a bacterial infection(avium bacteriam). I think he knows I am scared and doesn\'t want to alarm any further. Dont operate unless they biopsy. A pet scan can show activity something but is not as conclusive as a needle biopsy. Get other opinions before anything else.
