Perhaps maybe I will be able to help a few of you understand Pancreatitus. I have been diagnosed with this disease in March of 1999. I had to be hospitalized for 3 months and ultimately had to have surgery to repair my pancreas. During surgery, my spleen, gall bladder, 1/3 of my pancreas, appendix, and a 5cm pseudo cyst was taken out in June of '99, due to the acute attack I suffered in March of that year. I am 21 years old, a college student and now healthy and haven't had any major complications since hospitalization. However, tell your loved ones that have pancreatic complications to reduce alcohol intake--my doctor's and surgeons recommend NO alcohol at all. Also, low-fat diet where lots of fruits, veggies, and whole grains are needed to maintain energy, vitamin and nutrition balance. Steer clear of fatty meats and foods because they will cause lots of stress on the pancreas. For those experiencing pain--my symptoms of pancreatitus include: burning in the middle of abdomen(like there is a fire inside your stomach), distention of the stomach, shortness of breath, painful to walk and cannot stand up straight(upright). Also about a month before I had my attack in March '99, I noticed severe diarrhea after almost every meal, constant urination--getting up each hour of the night because bladder feels like it is going to explode, and vomiting. This went on for months before i had my attack, so if any of you have similar symptoms, then visit your doctor immediately. Ask them to test blood levels in your body--specifically the amylase and lipase levels in the blood, as they are a good indicator of pancreatitus if they are elevated severely. Furthermore, I hope this helps explain a little bit about the subject.
