Why should they also be an MD, DO, etc. They are going to school to learn to be an ND. Maybe they don\'t believe in allopathic medicine, so then they would only be an MD. MDs don\'t have anything prior to earning their MD except for a Bachelor degree that includes certain courses. One MD program in a near by city is only 3 years long. My family doctor took care of my for my entire first pregnancy without additional training besides an MD degree. So I don\'t understand the reasoning behind an ND needing some kind of medical background prior to going to school. Vets, only need certain courses before applying to school, then it is 4 years and if they chose to continue, then they specialize in something. A Pharmacist also needs certain courses before getting into school and then they go to school for what, 3 or 4 years. Then they could do their PharmD, however they all only have specific courses first, no other medical background and they are either treating animals or dealing with peoples medications which if not done properly can cause the person problems. So if they are going to school to be an ND, then that is what they should have education in. They are specializing in Natural Therapies, and nothing else. Just wondering, as there is not wrong opinion!! Jennifer
