No one is suggesting doctors or anyone here send people out to buy books. The point is that NDs basically are doing the same suggestions in readily available health-related books. Also, NDs tend to stick to a whole foods diet, which if you do any reading on food and healing, is basically 5-8 servings of seasonal, fresh fruits and veggies, quality proteins and fats, proper amount of fiber, whole grains, lots of water, and you\'re good to go. Whether it\'s hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes, PMS, eczema, constipation - it will be the same. Elimination diets will be basically the same, yeast or wheat-free diets, of course, different. An MD will refer to a nutritionist in the event of true celiac disease or sprue.

People don\'t walk around really not knowing what\'s wrong with them, unless it\'s some frightening symptom like rectal bleeding. Of course, the majority of folks are not going to get a book and read up on it and try to treat it. But those ailments that have become common, the info is out there. The NDs in my area charge $150 to $350 for an office visit. With easy access to the internet, health magazines & books all over the place, people are trying things themselves and getting results without the expensive office visit.
