NDs and diagnosis

NDs say they practive preventive medicine, but how many patients go to them unles they\'re sick. It might be that most seek out this alternative when other modalities have not helped. These are the patients with PMS, menopausal symptoms, eczema, chronic fatigue, high cholesterol. With these problems, NDs don\'t really diagnose. How many people are really going to consult with an ND for pain or perhaps discharge, sudden onset of any particular symptom? Not many.

NDs in most states cannot order lab tests or x-rays, and nost NDs do not believe in using these. NDs must try to articulate exactly what they believe in and don\'t believe in, because it is not clear to general public.

From what I\'ve read here, it is very likely that their diagnosing skills are not that great, because so much emphasis is based on improving lifestyle as opposed to following the typical allopathic model. Yet, treating symptoms seems to be the way NDs practice.

The ND program isn\'t that long, either. It\'s hard to believe that their diagnosing skills are on par with medical specialists. Bastyr doesn\'t even require a bachelors\' degree, as someone here wrote (it\'s true).
