One of the more successful NDs gave us some informal tips on how to make a good living in naturopathy. He said:
1. Don\'t try to start your business in the saturated areas like Seattle or Portland. Try to find a place away from the schools, but in an area with a high enough standard of living to support your business.
2. Always send clients away with several bottles of professional supplements. He told us that for some NDs, supplement sales can bring almost as much income as patient visits.
3. Set up a referral network with another ND and refer most of your clients to each other for \'specialty care\' . That way each practitioner gets almost double the patient visits. Apparently, the insurance companies are less likely to hassle you than if one ND billed for too much care per patient.
Also, some NDs here spend part time doing naturopathy and have another job to make ends meet. It\'s not uncommon to meet NDs in Seattle who work as salespeople at supplement stores.
Hope this helps :)
