Just perscribed Effexor XR and I\'m a little worried

I was recently perscribed Effexor XR after an ignored life long depression problem landed me in the local phsycological emergancy service. I am 18, and have taken Aderol for ADD every school year since the first grade. I feel the Aderol has been almost an affliction, and as a result I have become very sketchy of medications that may further mess up my life. After researching effexor XR im not so sure its a good idea to take. I hear horrible stories of side effects and withdraw and I have become a little worried. I\'ve been on it for 5 days now, and I think i am already feeling negative side effects. in 2 days my dose gets increased, and i will not see my newly aquired therapist (MD) till March. I know there are already related threads, and I\'ve read alot of them, but i still felt the need to post a new one. Please submit any advice or experiences. thanks in advance.
