Kristi,

Neither you nor your lecturer are completely incorrect. But, you are both partially wrong.

There is little or no experimantal evidence that supports naturopathy as a system. But, some of the modalities that some naturopaths use (ie, herbal medicine, nutritional interventions, etc.) have ample research to back them up. Other modalities do not. I\'d recommend searching a database like PubMed or the Cochrane Database to find relevant studies.

One caveat though. Just because there is evidence to support a specific intervention doesn\'t mean it\'s taught that way by naturopath schools. Several of my instructors were openly hostile to research based or scientific use of these modalities.

All of the naturopath schools make a big deal about their research programs in order to make themselves appear more legitimate. None of these programs is very robust, though. They perform very few actual clinical trials. Most of the studies that they do carry out are small and of poor design. To my knowledge, thus far only single study carried out by a naturopath school has appeared in a major medical journal. And, it showed a negative outcome for treating pediatric URIs with Echinacea. Much of the research at my school was geared to ESP.
