My first bout w/Pancreatitus was in 1970. They finally diagnosed it in 1985. Most of the limited advise I read is right on, however I may be able to add a helpful suggestion. At first sign of an attack starting I stop eating and take a muscle relaxer called Robaxin 700mg or 750mg, I forget which. The Robaxin seems to relax the pancreas and the surrounding organs allowing for the gas to pass through the common bile duct, thereby reducing the pain level to a tolerable level.
If started early enough this will prevent an all out attack. The biggest problem is that you start to feel better sooner and want to resume eating. Big mistake!!
The pancreas needs the 3 days of clear liquids only to return to a stable condition. Hope this will help.
