I had the lumbar to peritoneal shunt put in 6/26/02 discharged 6/30/02 readmitted w/major blood clot 7/1 surgery in lower back and left abdomen just below navel recovery from surgery about 3 weeks I also have a small child. I had a brain hemhorrage in april and surgery and have had four more surgeries since including the shunt and a vena cava filter for the blood clot. today I found out that my shunt is not functioning correctly and will need to be removed. it feels like there is no end. I too need to lose weight. I have lost most of the vision in both eyes and can no longer drive. I have been on diamox topamax depakote and various other medications for pain relief. my heart goes out to you. Good Luck
