I started Effexor to find relief from a constant depression and anxiety/panic attacks over a year ago (March 2003). I started at 75mgs of Effexor XR, and left the panic attacks go away almost completely. I asked my doctor about upping the dose because I was still feeling depressed, and he took me to 150mgs. I was feeling great all around for about 2 months. Then the depression set in with the anxiety, so I asked my doctor and he said I could begin taking 150mg in he morning and 75mg at night. At 225mg for over 5months I was feeling ok, besides the sweats and occasionally a panic attack. I though that I could start to wean myself off the drug. Started going back to the 150mg in the morning and experienced more panic attacks, a twitch/shock in my brain that went through my arms that had caused me not to sleep (since laying down caused more), hot flashes, and feeling run down. After being at 150mg for 2 weeks most had calmed down except for the twitch/shock in my brain, that continued. I thought I could go down to just 75 mgs a day and that was wrong. Everything came back hot flashes constantly, loss of sleep, and the brain twitches went crazy. I couldn’t stand it anymore so I went back to the 150mgs to see if I would feel better. The depression level was the same but the twitches has stopped but I was constantly run down. Complete loss of sex drive also. I went back to my doctor and explained that I had some bad effects trying to come down off of the Effexor and that I felt more depressed than I did went I started now. During that doctors appointment I got weighed and had gained close to 50 pounds in the last year. I asked him about that and he said that could be a side effect of the Effexor. I don’t remember seeing severe weight gain as a side effect. If anything I saw it could cause severe weight loss. My doctor said that Wellbutrin might help. I asked if I should wean off of the Effexor and he said that it wasn’t necessary. I stopped talking Effexor that day(8/6/04) and the same side effects came back. I had nausea on top of the other effects. The brain twitches came back full, at least 2-4 per minute. So much so the first day I started the Wellbutrin the following day to maybe help the twitches. I have been off Effexor for 4 days and the twitches are still there and last night I had a complete breakdown and I have felt like I’m on the verge of crying all day long. I feel that this was not stated anywhere about the come down effects and that Effexor has been around long enough to be able to have these noted somewhere in the patient information. I want people to know how it can effect you, and pray these twitches are not a long term thing.

Please inform me if there is any info on the class action suite.
