I can identify with everyone who has shared on Effexor withdrawl. The lack of notification from both Wyeth Laboratories, Inc. who produce this medication and the lack of education with physicians who prescribe it do not inform their patients of the severe side effects of withdraw. I am mental health social worker who works with clients who are prescribed medications for anxiety and depression and I have my own diagnoses in which I felt Effexor could relieve my symptoms. After two weeks on this medication, I had to taper off the medication and I have been off of it for five days now. Their are central themes of Effexor withdraw that people have been experiencing, including myself which the pharmaceutical company should have placed a warning on their labels, as well as, my physician. The physical withdraw symptoms are very bad dizzyness, electric brain shocks or shivers, difficulty moving eyes, headache, nausea, frequent urination, difficulty moving around or problems with balance, faintness, feel like throwing up, inability to concentrate, brain fog. The emotional withdraw symptoms include self-worthlessness, hypersensitive, paranoia, impaired thinking, impaired judgement, lost, disassociation from reality. A good example for my disassociation is at work when I walk to the bathroom I wonder if I am in the bathroom or in my office. Sometimes I get lost for a half an hour in my kitchen and wonder why I went in there. Suddenly I find myself and regroup. It is almost funny. So unlike my baseline. I\'m not normally like this at all. I have notified all of my friends and family in email to write to the FDA to petition this medication off the market at http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch I can no longer be silent on what I am feeling and I support everyone who is going through the same feelings. This has been a wonderful opportunity to feel like I am not alone, but we must educate our physicians and the pharmaceutical company that we will not stand for this anymore! I have learned a few things that help with the withdraw symptoms, but I have yet to find anything that one-hundred percent works. They include drinking lots of water, being around positive and supportive people, drinking lots of water, excercise in moderation, Antivert for dizzyness, Benedryl, Allegra-D that have helped for other people. I just know I need to get through this, and with lots of prayer and focusing on positive well-being I can get through it eventually. In the interim I am very angry and exhausted and sick and tired of being sick and tired and willing to add myself to being vocal in a class action lawsuit. If anyone is interested in emailing me for support and/or discuss this further, you are welcome to email me at empowered@positive-thinking.com -In peace, Brad
